Q: Aren’t there already Christians in Europe?
A: Belgium is historically a Catholic nation and approximately 80% of the population would say that they are Catholic. However, the religious climate of Europe has been steadily declining where current statistics show less than 10% of the population are practicing Catholics and less than 1% claim to be Evangelical Christians (Protestants).
Q: What will you do in Belgium?
A: When people think of missions and evangelism, they might envision street evangelism, door-to-door ministry and the like. However, many Belgians, along with other Europeans, have lost sight of the relevance of God in their lives. Quite honestly, there are many who question the mere existence of God. Therefore, our approach must be more intentional. Personal relationships are key in Belgium, and they take time, much more than what we are accustomed to as Americans. They take time to develop trust and to get to a heart level.
We are partnering with Christian Belgian nationals and other Christians living in Belgium, to form a new community. We hope to demonstrate that church is not just an event or a building, but rather a group of believers sharing life together through faith in a living God. To do this we will create groups centered around language, culture, and faith. These groups will create a "bridge" between us and our community, helping us to develop the relationships that are needed, while letting our faith be our witness and praying for opportunities to speak into people's lives.
